Excellent value, clean, welcoming, friendly. Don't be put off by the facade.
The hotel entrance is located on a side street off the main road. It depends on what room you are allocated, as to how noisy it is. The rooms at the back of the hotel face the main road out the back, which is two bus lanes and two car lanes each way, so these can be noisy. I had a suite at the back! This also overlooked a building site with lots of cranes and diggers making a bit of a racket.
I was shown around some of the other suites and they were definitely quieter, but I decided to stay where I was as it wasn't really such a big deal, all things considered. The city is a very noisy, bustling place at the best of times, so you soon get used to it.
This really is only a minor complaint, and I could have moved rooms easily enough, but personally chose not to, so please don't put too much store in this.
I booked this hotel for a business trip on the basis of price and location. The price is good, although there were much cheaper ones around the area. My decision was finalised by my secretary, so I can't complain! It was a 20 minute drive from the airport, which in Bogota, could be considered just around the corner!
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. My language skills are not fluent by any means, but they were patient with me and we eventually understood each other.
The hotel is a bit dated - think slightly shabby colonial styling - all white-painted and dark wood. Yes, it could do with some updating, but it was very clean, spotlessly clean everywhere, and comfortable too. They have a very good restaurant that served excellent food. There is a comprehensive a-la-carte menu but I soon found that the daily specials are the dishes to go for. I had an excellent meal for three of us for about £15. The beds were very good too and gave a good night's sleep. My particular room was a bit noisy (see below) but I don't think they are all like that.
I have to say a particular thank-you the hotel driver, Senor Diaz, who couldn't have been more helpful. I was collected from the airport and needed to buy some essentials that I couldn't bring on the plane. It was a Sunday and most shops were closed, but he drove around to find the relevant shops and accompanied me into the shops as my personal translator, to help me find what I needed. Throughout the week, he was my driver when I needed him, and he was so helpful and friendly. You can hire him to take you somewhere, wait for a couple of hours, and bring you back, all for less than the cost of a couple of miles in a Black Cab in London!
